Required Equipment
- The steam sterilizer, which is sold exclusively in department stores, can be replaced with a large frying pan that has never been used for cooking.
- Bottle and nipple cleaning brush
- Rubber gloves, nipple grip pliers
- Check that the equipment is sterilized and all feedings are intact (i.e. no scratches or cracks).
When Should You Clean and Sanitize?
- All breastfeeding devices must be cleaned and sterilized prior to each use for at least the first 6 months.
- Bottles and teats must be sterilized before each use for as long as they are still in use.
How to do it
Before Sterilization
- Wash your hands thoroughly with the detergent and clean the surface where the bottle is prepared.
- Rinse the device thoroughly in hot water mixed with a cleaning solution.
- Use a brush to scrub the bottle inside and out.
- Use a nipple brush and squeeze water from the nipple to remove any residue of milk.
- Thoroughly rinse all equipment with water again.
After Sterilization
- Wash your hands before handling the device. Wear gloves too. Make sure to clean the surface where the bottle is prepared.
- Keep all equipment in the container.
- If it is not used immediately, assemble the bottle with the nipple and cap tightly. This will prevent the feeding bottle and teats from becoming contaminated with germs for a period of time, depending on the sterilization method.
Boiling Sterilization Technique
- Fill a large saucepan with clean water or a steaming pot.
- Immerse all equipment, including nipple vise, in the water. Be careful not to have air bubbles trapped.
- Cover the pan and boil for at least 10 minutes, being careful not to boil over dry. All equipment must be submerged in boiling water.
- Let the appliance cool little by little and keep the pan lid closed.
- Use a nipple clamp on the bottle to prevent germs from contaminating the sterile device.
- Devices that are immersed in water with the lid closed remain sterile for about 3 hours.
Electric Steam Sterilizer
- Add the specified amount of water. As recommended by the manufacturer.
- Put the equipment, including nipple clamps, put the steamer. Be careful not to keep the device in a vertical position and all equipment must be immersed in water.
- Close the cover and turn on the power.
- Beware of scalding Do not open the lid of the steamer. Let the device cool slightly before opening the lid.
- Use a nipple clamp on the bottle to prevent germs from contaminating the sterile device.
- The device will remain sterile as long as the lid is closed.
- The residue should be washed in a steamer. According to the specified time.
