Many new moms feel nervous about cleaning their baby’s nose because babies wriggle and cry. With the right tools and a calm approach, it becomes a quick and easy part of your daily care routine.
What You Need
- A soft baby nasal aspirator
- Saline water drops
- Soft cotton cloth or cotton buds
- A swaddle cloth
- A small clean bowl
Step by Step
- Swaddle your baby gently or ask another family member to hold your baby facing you, so little hands don’t grab the aspirator.
- Put a drop of saline water in one nostril to soften any dry residue.
- Press the aspirator bulb, place the soft tip at the opening of the nostril and release slowly.
- Empty the aspirator into the bowl, then repeat on the other side. Once or twice per side is enough.
- Wipe around the nose with a soft damp cloth.
PUR Tips
- Keep your baby sitting up or lying on the side while cleaning.
- For babies over 6 months, a few saline drops and a soft cloth are often enough.
- Never insert cotton buds deep inside the nose.
- Stay calm and smile. Babies get used to the routine quickly and cry less over time.
- Wash and dry the aspirator after every use.
