5 Tips for Pumping Breast Milk for the Long Run

Want to keep giving your baby breast milk for as long as possible? These five tips help make pumping a smooth part of your routine.

1. Pump Regularly

Pump every 3–4 hours for about 20–30 minutes. A steady routine tells your body to keep making milk.

2. Don’t Worry About Small Amounts

Getting only a little milk, especially right after your baby has fed, is normal. Keep going consistently and your supply often increases. Try to stay relaxed, because stress can slow milk flow.

3. Choose a Quality Breast Pump

Look for a pump with steady suction, adjustable modes and a shield that fits you well. A comfortable, well-made pump like the PUR breast pump range makes long-term pumping easier.

4. Eat Well and Drink Water

Eat balanced meals from all food groups and drink 2–3 litres of water a day to support good milk production.

5. Keep Milk Flowing Smoothly

Pump fully each time and let your baby feed often. If milk flow feels slow or uneven, gentle breast massage before and during pumping helps. If you have any concerns, talk to a lactation consultant.
